It’s happening! Demolition started today at The Steel District, Lloyd Companies’ historic downtown project to transform the former Sioux Steel property into an exciting destination including a Canopy by Hilton hotel, first-class office space, apartments, condominiums and fantastic shopping and dining.
“It’s so rewarding to see this become reality,” Lloyd's CEO Chris Thorkelson said. “It’s the result of years of visioning, partnership and hard work from so many people. We couldn’t be more proud to bring this to downtown and to Sioux Falls.”
Work is starting on the far north side of a former Sioux Steel manufacturing building and will continue for the next week or two.
Come September, you’ll start to see vertical construction.
“We’ll begin with the parking ramp, which will be surrounded by upscale apartments and approximately 20 condominiums,” Executive Vice President Jake Quasney said.
“We’ve had an incredible response from people who want to join us at the Steel District as condo owners, so we’re excited to begin selling that space later this month.”
The Steel District will hold an official groundbreaking on Aug. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at 196 E. 6th St.
“We’re just so grateful to the Rysdon family, the city of Sioux Falls, and the numerous other partners who have joined with us to create the Steel District,” Thorkelson said. “This is one of many milestone days ahead.”
