Pasque Boutique and Alcove, a museum store for the Washington Pavilion, are open just in time for Labor Day weekend at The Steel District.
The downtown development from Lloyd Companies on former Sioux Steel property is adjacent to Falls Park along the Big Sioux River.
The openings mark the first retail occupants on the first floor of the building with apartments, condominiums and a parking ramp above. Coffee shop Brioux Falls opened in the next-door office tower late last year and multiple restaurants will follow in that building yet this fall.
With just a few inventory delays for Alicia Engelking, owner of Pasque Boutique, this week is nothing short of a dream come true, she said.
“It’s a nice, bright, light space that I feel people will really enjoy,” Engelking said. “Being one of the first ones in this new district is so exciting.”
Engelking has been following the Sioux Steel development since the beginning and jumped on the chance to obtain a space for her first brick-and-mortar boutique.
“I’ve been wanting this since I was a teenager, so now that it’s here, it’s surreal,” she said.
The store will carry women’s ‘work to weekend’-style clothing in sizes XS to 3X, a charm bar, permanent jewelry and more.
“I would love it to be a community-type feeling,” she said.
“We are dog-friendly; I will even hold your baby,” she said, laughing. “We want everyone to feel welcomed and accepted.”
Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visit Pasque Boutique online, on Facebook and Instagram.
Alcove, its next-door neighbor, is operated by Washington Pavilion Management Inc. and offers a wide range of local and regional artwork and traditional museum store products like STEAM-related gifts and games, as well as decor and handcrafted jewelry.
“We want to play off of our association with the Washington Pavilion and continue to enrich the community we have,” retail operations manager Meghan Knight said.
“We want to create an inviting place for people to find something new and different.”
Alcove is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
The building has about 5,700 square feet left for additional retail, which can be subdivided.
“It’ll be so interesting to see how the development comes together with retail spaces and restaurants,” Knight said. “We’ve been working toward this opening for a while, and I’m really excited it’s finally here.”
