Brunch, Late-Night Bites and Other New Additions Await at The Steel District

Whether you’re an early riser or love a good late-night outing, there’s something new waiting for you at The Steel District.

“Since opening we’ve had an incredible response from visitors to the Steel District as they’ve discovered Big Sioux Burger, Dahlia Kitchen + Bar and Ironwood, and now we’re excited to offer even more,” said restauranteur Josh Thoma, whose team created and manages the restaurant concepts.

“It’s our goal that you can dine with us from morning through late night with three distinct experiences in each space.”

Start your day off right at Big Sioux Burger, which offers breakfast daily beginning at 8 a.m. and all day now until 5 p.m.

“It’s a great spot for a breakfast meeting, or if you work the third shift you can come in and we’ll be open,” Thoma said.

The breakfast menu features classic favorites including several varieties of pancakes, omelets, egg dishes, corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy.

Plus, enjoy happy hour from 8 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. with special offers on beer, wine and cocktails.

Brunch also is arriving at Dahlia Kitchen + Bar, which rolls out brunch menu items March 1. The menu will be available Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Look for Latin-inspired dishes including Steak and Eggs Avocado Toast-adas, Pollo Verde Masa Pancakes, Chorizo and Yuca Breakfast CrunchWrap, Pork Pastor Chilaquiles and Churro Pancakes.

“We’re learning what Sioux Falls has an appetite for and evolving our menus accordingly,” Thoma said.

The menu also is evolving at fine dining restaurant Ironwood, which has seen steady support from diners.

“We made some adjustments there and also have enjoyed hosting a number of special events,” Thoma said.

“Both Dahlia and Ironwood are a fit for events of various sizes, from smaller dinner and birthday parties to corporate socials that might involve an entire space.”

Big Sioux Burger and Dahlia also offer plenty of ways to end your day.

Happy hour at Dahlia runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and includes specials on drinks and appetizers as tostadas, queso fundido, wings, nachos and mini lobster tacos.

Every Wednesday is “Really Happy Hour” at Big Sioux Burger from 3 to 6 p.m., when you can snag a house burger, fries and a domestic beer for $10.

For late night fun, Big Sioux Burger is adding karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights, in addition to Thursday nights, and is looking at adding trivia.

Dahlia now hosts a DJ starting at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and will be starting a late-night food and drink menu.

Dahlia Kitchen + Bar Tequila Room

“It’s loungey Latin vibes,” Thoma said. “This isn’t club-style music, but it’s great sound to hang out by and sets a cool atmosphere.”

Special Features, Events

Both Big Sioux Burger and Dahlia also offers burgers and tacos of the month, respectively.

And make sure to come back to Big Sioux Burger during Lent, when chef Nick O’Leary will be bringing his famous fish and chips to the menu.

The first Tuesday of the month features a new tequila class at Dahlia. With more than 225 different tequilas in the cellar, there always are new ones to try. Classes start at 6:30 p.m. and include a brief overview and history of tequila while you sample four different tequilas, learning about the different types, the aging process, and more. Then, guests will follow along as they make their own tequila-based cocktail, all while enjoying light snacks from the Dahlia kitchen. Sign up for March and April at www.dahliakitchensf.com.

Plus, watch The Steel District restaurants for entries into a downtown cocktail competition in March and as patio season opens with plenty of destination dining ahead.

What’s Next

There’s always something new on the way at The Steel District!

Jack Rose Social Club is under construction in the building that includes The District Lofts, Pasque Boutique and Alcove.

The team at Lloyd Construction has finished framing walls and is putting in ductwork and wiring along with other trade work. Once the weather allows, exterior work will begin as the restaurant moves toward an opening in late June or early July.

The menu will be similar to the Jack Rose location in south Sioux Falls, but the space will be much larger, featuring multiple seating areas, a standout bar and a spacious patio perfect for listening to concerts at Levitt at the Falls.

And, across Phillips Avenue, the Cascade also has new additions on the way.

Get ready to get crafty as friends and educators Bobbi Clayton and Meagan Turbak are opening The Maker’s Circle, featuring handmade work from many vendors, make-and-take projects and art camps and classes.

The hope is to open in early March.

Shortly after that, get ready for the best St. Patrick’s Day downtown as Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill opens on the far north side of The Cascade.
